When it’s Spring again I’ll bring Tulips from Amsterdam
That’s the song from Max Bygraves, which most people are too young to remember. I recently passed through Amsterdam and took time to go to the famous Keukenhof Gardens. Despite the fact that the weather had been too cold to allow many fields to flower with tulips, the gardens were glorious.
It’s actually quite easy to get there. There is a bus that runs from the airport straight to the gardens and back. That means business travelers passing through Schipol could take a 3 to 4-hour detour and see the gardens without having to spend a night in Amsterdam. Check out the website for details http://www.keukenhof.nl/.
The gardens are only open for about 2 months each year (March to May) when the flowers are in bloom. This means that you need to be sure to take the opportunity to visit if you are in Amsterdam during this time.
One piece of advice, take your allergy meds with you. It took me a week to recover from the pollen!
